I didn't expect much from GlobeTune at this price, but it exceeds what a lot of pricier radios manage. Stations that were buried in static on my old set come through clean, especially after dark. It's become my go-to for catching the news when the internet's down.

I travel for work constantly and got tired of losing my podcasts the second I lost signal. GlobeTune's memory pages keep my go-to stations sorted by city, and the battery genuinely lasts through a full travel day. It's earned a permanent spot in my carry-on.

Elena K.Verified Buyer
Daniel P.

I was skeptical any radio in this price range could handle SSB well, but GlobeTune proved me wrong. Paired with my dipole antenna, it pulls in ham bands with a clarity I didn't expect outside of pro receivers.

Frequently Asked Questions

verified +347 experts reviewed it as the best choice in 2026
Q1 How long does the battery last on a single charge?
A full charge typically delivers 12 to 15 hours of listening at moderate volume. Recharge anytime with the included USB cable to keep your battery topped off.
Q2 Does shortwave radio still work today?
Yes. Ham operators, utility stations, and international broadcasters still fill the shortwave bands, especially during major news events and emergencies. It remains a screen-free way to explore the world beyond mainstream media.
Q3 What makes GlobeTune different from cheap shortwave radios?
Budget models often mute between frequencies, drift off station, or skip SSB entirely. GlobeTune pairs digital signal processing with SSB reception and frequency memory, so listening stays more consistent without those compromises.
Q4 Is SSB worth having on a portable radio?
SSB opens up amateur radio, aviation, and maritime voice traffic that standard AM and FM tuning can't decode. GlobeTune's SSB mode opens up that extra layer of listening most budget portables skip entirely.
Q5 Do I need to buy an external antenna separately?
The built-in antenna handles most local and mid-range reception beautifully. For serious long-distance DXing, plug an external antenna into the dedicated jack for a noticeable signal boost.
Q6 Is GlobeTune a good pick for emergencies or prepping?
Yes. When the grid and internet go down, GlobeTune still pulls in weather, news, and emergency broadcasts on battery power. Keep it charged and packed in its carrying case as part of your emergency kit or go-bag.
Q7 Why is my reception sometimes weak even with a good radio?
Shortwave reception depends on time of day, weather, and nearby electronics that create interference. For the clearest signal, move GlobeTune near a window, extend the antenna, and try listening after dark when distant stations come in stronger.
Q8 Is GlobeTune easy enough for a first-time radio listener?
Absolutely. The automatic search feature and clear interface make it simple for beginners, while deeper tuning options keep experienced listeners engaged for years.
